Pokémon Essentials and PBS: preparing a translation
Check the engine, structure and PBS content before translating.
Engine and format
Pokémon Essentials/PBS depends on the recognized engine and structure. PBS is a data-file family, not an additional engine. Legacy games require Basic or Plus. This guide does not certify universal compatibility for a list of fangames or kit versions.
Preparation
- Keep an intact copy and add the game executable.
- Check the engine and detection messages.
- Check whether expected PBS content appears and your access allows processing it.
- Select recognized text fields only. Preserve identifiers, commands and markers.
- Configure the provider and language pair; review terminology before applying.
- Test relevant parts of the copy after applying.
Recognizing PBS does not guarantee coverage of every text, script or game version. If content is missing, record the engine, version and message; do not force changes to internal data. See compatibility.
